Preparing you for a career in surgery
Welcome to the North West London core surgery training programme. Throughout your training we will help you develop a broad range of skills.
In your first year you will be expected to attend a unique simulation programme which includes specific modules in general surgery, orthopedics and otolaryngology. You will also be given a laprotrainers to take home to practice on. This will help prepare you for life as a registrar and subsequently a consultant surgeon.
In the second year all trainees are expected to do an anatomy demonstration at one of the university hospital training locations.
During your time on the programme you will receive support from a network of people who are dedicated to ensuring you get the most out of your training and successfully complete both academic and clinical units. In each clinical placement you will have support from your clinical supervisor. You will also be allocated an educational supervisor who will set your learning agreement at the beginning of each post and follow your progress over the year.
Each hospital has a College tutor who will closely monitor your training and liaise with the core surgery programme director. The programme director, and head of school have a responsibility to oversee your progress and monitor the quality of the training posts.
